I don't think it would come as a surprise to anyone that Tesla could not be as popular as Musk expected. The yanks have never built good cars. They suck at it always have and always will. Just compare the Porche and the Audi GT with a Tesla and you will see the difference in aesthetics. Yanks build good mechanical components and I drive a Australian built Statesman with all Chev running gear. It is an outstanding car to travel long distances in, which I do regularly and it looks better than any tank ever will (admitting it is lowered with performance suspension). aesthetics aside the major headwind for America; as it was for Australia, is the high dollar. I always mused at how Trump was going to devalue the US$ and make America a manufacturing powerhouse. So far he has failed. The biggest car manufacturers will be Asian and possibly European for high end vehicles and Americans, like Australians, will be importing foreign vehicles. It is not going to affect the Li supply demand.
