Most of those shorts were covered the same day.
I have been tracking the shorts between 11th March 2019 and 1st April 2019.
What it shows is that there were 38.5M Gross shorts over that period but the net shorts only increased by 7.5M.
Interestingly for the 3 high gross short days of 28 Mar, 29 Mar, 1 Apr the gross shorts were 21.5M shorts but the total shorts outstanding only increased by 0.7M.
Clearly a fair chunk of the shorts are just being used for pure day trading which is why on the close of business at 4.10pm you always get a large volume go through which is likely covering the days shorts.

Personally I can't see a direct relationship between the net daily shorts and the share price movement each day.
The shorts do play a part in moving the share price but equally other factors such as Option conversions, Lithium sentiment, overall market sentiment, Lithium prices, Other Lithium company news and PLS news equally effect the daily share price movement.

This is a summary of the shorts over that period which also shows that there must be some time lags between the gross short daily data and the total outstanding ASIC short data.
