Doc. I work in the power industry. The problem you speak of isn’t as big an issue as the one we have to modernize our network. The grid was set up for large base load power stations and other large scale generation. It will be a process
to convert to renewables and small micro grid generation but the process is underway.

As scale of production and battery advancements occur, residential ESS adoption will explode and the VPP will be normal as battery prices will make it economically a no brainer. See the link below for Origin’s spin.

Just as an example. I have enough solar now to power my home with a bit of spare. Another 6kW of panels with an ESS and I would have enough to keep two EVs charged and still some for a VPP. Not only that but in peak load periods the EVs could be used to supply the grid.

It’s not where the power is coming from that is the issue but the technical aspects of integrating the renewables and microgrids into our antiquated network. It wouldn’t seem so far away if our coal loving government policy started the transition many year’s prior.
