I am a yank so rules may be different but I seldom find differences. Holding shares has no impact on Day trading. Day trading is the same as any other trading but you can trade large number of shares. since you complete the transaction in the same day you never have to pay for the shares. Some brokers love day traders then earn commission both ways and it is always online so low cost to them. Other hate them because day traders can get in trouble and that means brokers need to get involved to fix things. Costing them money. Key point being an owner has nothing to do with day trades. I have not done a day trade in 20 years it was just too stress full for me. You also have to be hooked to your computer which can interfere with your day job.
I use options for medium term trades exclusively, 2 to 6 months. In general They do not work well for very short periods. One exception is covering an announcement, Like a Q or AR report even then you may want to buy them a little in advance. The way time premiums work it keeps them from moving a lot in a single day
