It's easiest when you get a feel for what's running hot.

Coronavirus (biomed/biotech) related stocks will be hot while the news is still hitting the front page.
GOLD is booming, so keep an eye out on gold stocks

Or are you talking about low volume periods intraday on a stock that's been on a pump?
All I can say to that is: Welcome to the ASX, where we have sheety volumes.
