So I contacted someone on Saturday. He's a CEO of an ASX listed company circa $20 bil.
I asked if he could remember who it was.
He messaged me today with contact details. And the gent still does grower champagnes.
I received an email. And yes I dropped a name in the email.

I said to him 'I and a mate ((you) would like to have information re offers'.
He pretty much only services select clients.
He has no stock. But I'm not surprised. Fresh champagne doesn't land until October or so anyway.
