I'm not a social warrior but I can see the point of women who are saying, "no, just stop saying that stuff. It just helps maintain the old patriarchal standards". Many, including me would have said, "Hey, lighten up, it's no big deal." But it depends where you stand in the picture. I am the one male in our family and close social group and I have had it explained to me fairly severely. What seems reasonable balance to some is just more head kicking to others. Having a sexist oaf like Trump as head of the "free" world has also caused some women to lose their sense of humour about these things. et al Harvey Weinstein etc.

To make a point. If we were talking about racism and you didn't think using the 'N' word was such a crime because you weren't racist. Would you then go down to Harlem and start jiving with the big black dudes and say "Hey my good N.....r". No you wouldn't. And not because you thought it might upset some of them, but because you wouldn't be game!

But sexist comments about women? Intentional or no. Yeh, what's the worst that could happen? That's why it still goes on.

Whether things will change I really don't know. But up until the late 50s things were very bad for women.

If you're not sure about the right thing to do, find a confident women and explain your problem. You will get told. lol

In fact I don't think it even clicked for her.

I probably shouldn't have mentioned it here in hindsight.
The only reason I even mentioned it at the track was because my son and daughter were with me. And I like to make them aware of social attitudes like that one.

My wife was happy with the compliment. And so was I.
When I said "nice and sexist" she chuckled and said yep, And we went on to discussing the actual drive. It was never mentioned again.
