Haha can you tell I spent far too much time thinking about this stuff? Just to get people thinking more than anything, it was great to see a lot more of it last night.
I reckon most don't care about the thoughts behind the rules, and just want something simple that means they can post freely without needing to worry about a mod hitting them with the naughty stick for mentioning a code for a second time, when until very recently there were a few people that fairly regularly racked up 10+ posts a day on any given stock code. That was always going to cause some issues.
I suppose that's the thing when you put it to the masses like it has been, I think people don't want the stress of creating their own rules and just want something simple to follow. And I imagine the majority will vote with self-interest in mind, and very few of I think are keen about rules that take away freedoms that were enjoyed before. But I don't think "we don't want none of yer dang stinkn rules round 'ere" is going to be accepted as a response either, so the DT'ers are stuck with 1 stock code mention until some kind of middle ground is found.
I think it's kind of been destined for failure from the start though, the whole let the people come up with their own rules idea, knowing all the different types of characters that use the thread, there is not a whole lot that some have in common. That's part of why I haven't commented on it till now, anyone that tries to sort this out is catching a bit of a hand grenade, and I prefer my limbs firmly attached thankyouverymuch. Having one of the sensible thread openers like HLL sign off on it does prevent any mad suggestions making their way to madmins office, but getting so many different people to agree on even some simple rules is probably more suited to someone with UN level negotiations experience.
