Severe Tropical Cyclone Marcia intensified to a category five storm early on Friday, with evacuations ordered in Central Queensland as it loomed about 130km off the coast.
The storm was due to make landfall between St Lawrence and Bundaberg by 10:00am (AEST) on Friday, bearing wind gusts of almost 300 kilometres per hour.
It is expected to continue moving south once it crosses the Capricorn coast.
