End-of-day summary:

Aussie shares overcame flat leads and earnings misses to carve out a third day of gains.

Bank and mining stocks steered the ASX 200 to a rise of 13 points or 0.17%.

Gold producers shone as the yellow metal pushed back towards last week's record levels. Genesis Minerals, De Grey and Ramelius all put on at least 5.6%. The big four banks added between 0.58% and 1.63%.

Drags included CSL, James Hardie and Seek following underwhelming trading updates.

US stocks ended mixed and little changed overnight ahead of inflation data this week that could impact expectations for interest rate cuts as soon as next month.
