Australian shares rose for a second session as Qantas hit an all-time high during one of the busiest days of the full-year reporting season.
The ASX 200 overcame a morning wobble to advance 19.5 points or 0.22% to 8980.
An 8% lift in passenger volumes and 9% growth in revenues helped the national carrier rally 9.09% into clear blue skies. Other standouts on a huge day of trading updates included IDP Education +29.74%, Eagers Automotive +12.02% and Lifestyle Communities +14.92%.
Among the day's disappointments: Ramsay Health Care -10.5%, Nine Entertainment -12.23% and South32 -7.22%.
The market gained momentum in afternoon trade as US stock futures partially recovered from a negative reaction to this morning's trading update from index heavyweight Nvidia. S&P 500 futures were down 0.15% at the Australian close.
