O/T Over the past 18 months, more than 450 fires in Australia have been linked to lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are commonly used to power light electric vehicles like e-scooters and e-bikes. Fire and Rescue New South Wales responded to approximately 180 lithium-ion battery-related fires in the past 12 months, while Victoria had 120 incidents in the year leading up to July. In Queensland, 72 fires have been recorded since 2021. One notable incident involved an e-scooter catching fire at a Brisbane house, resulting in five people being hospitalized. Additionally, there have been concerns about the safety of LG solar storage batteries, which have been linked to 13 cases of property damage due to spontaneous overheating and fire.
