It was completely shorters taking fright. There has been several discussions about activist traders over the years but nothing on the scale that we are seeing now. The entire market has taken fright. and lost confidence. We will see the ripple effect of this pyschological attack for days if not weeks. I suspect that a lot of people watch what the big boys do and try to mimic it - unfortunately today moved waaay too fast for most to keep up.
