The share market took a breather today from a rally that had lifted the local benchmark roughly 200 points in three sessions.
The ASX 200 eased 18 points or 0.23%, closing just below the 8,000 level that the index broke for the first time yesterday. Investors appeared to take a little profit off the table following back-to-back record closes.
Declines in resource stocks, utilities, tech companies and food companies outweighed gains in property trusts, industrials and some of the banks.
Wall Street continued to break new ground overnight, lifting the Dow 0.53% to a new record. The broader S&P 500 gained 0.28%.
