Thanks afternoon crew.
End-of-day summary:
The share market posted its first gain in three sessions as weekend news of a US-EU trade deal and likely US-China tariff-pause extension boosted US stock futures.
The ASX 200 rallied 31 points or 0.36% to 8698.
Advances in banks, telcos, REITs, industrials, consumer stocks and healthcare providers helped offset weakness among miners, energy producers and utilities.
Small caps and spec stocks sat out the rally: the Small Ords gave up 0.3%; the Emerging Companies index eased 0.61%.
S&P 500 futures jumped 0.47% after the Trump administration and European Union announced a trade deal that includes 15% tariffs on most EU imports into the US. Media reports suggested the White House and China were close to announcing a three-month extension to their tariff truce to allow time for more negotiations towards a permanent trade agreement.
