    Thanks afternoon crew.

    End-of-day summary:

The share market had its best day in more than five weeks after Commonwealth Bank hit a record and the battered materials sector bounced off an eight-month low.

All 11 sectors rose as the ASX 200 gained 105 points or 1.36%. Today's advance was the benchmark's strongest since a 127-point surge on May 16.

Commonwealth Bank climbed 1.44% to an all-time closing high. National Bank firmed 2.03% to a level last seen in 2015. The materials sector rebounded 1.83% as iron ore prices steadied in China.

Buyers were encouraged by signs that Wall Street's record run this year was broadening from manufacturers of Artificial Intelligence semiconductors to sectors that have underperformed. The Dow gained 0.67%, even as a technical correction in Nvidia helped drag the S&P 500 down 0.31% and the Nasdaq down 1.09%.
