The share market edged to a fifth straight gain, closing at its highest in almost a month.
The ASX 200 finished 11 points or 0.14% ahead in large part due to a late bump in the closing auction. The index peaked in the first half-hour and briefly unwound all of its gains as most Asian markets lost ground. The Asia Dow was down 1.17% at the Australian market close.
Notable drags here included Rio Tinto, Perpetual and Domain Holdings. Polynovo, Pinnacle Investment and Lifestyle Communities were the index's best performers.
Wall Street took a breather overnight after several days of strong gains. The S&P 500 nudged up 0.13% to a fourth straight positive finish. The Nasdaq eased 0.1% following negative news for Nvidia and Tesla.
