    Thanks afternoon crew.

    End-of-day summary:

The share market's positive start to the week stalled after Wall Street's November rally was unnerved by weak retail trading updates overnight.

The ASX 200 retreated five points or 0.07% as gains for banks, utilities, healthcare providers and some miners were outweighed by declines in tech, property and consumer stocks.

The market barely got out of first gear as the looming Thanksgiving holiday in the US cast a long cloud. Overnight, the S&P 500 dipped 0.2% as soft trading forecasts from a range of retailers encouraged traders to lock in profits after a strong three-week run.

Wall Street closes on Thursday for the annual US holiday. Many traders also sit out a holiday-shortened half-session on Friday.
