Thanks afternoon crew.
End-of-day summary:
The share market fell for a second day after geopolitical tensions in the Middle East fuelled risk-off trading on Wall Street.
The ASX 200 declined 24.5 points or 0.35% to 7026.5. Tech companies, industrials and property stocks led the retreat. Gains in gold miners and energy stocks shielded the market from a deeper loss.
US stocks mostly fell on Friday as Israel laid the groundwork for a ground assault on Gaza in the face of Iranian threats that an incursion could prompt retaliation. The S&P 500 shed 0.5% during a mixed session for the major indices. The Dow inched up 0.12% as investors rotated into blue chips and other havens, including gold and bonds.
US futures rose this afternoon after the weekend passed without major incident. S&P 500 futures firmed 0.2%.
