The share market edged to its highest close in two weeks after optimism about a US rate cut tomorrow night carried US stocks to a new record.
The ASX 200 rallied 25 points or 0.28% to 8877.7.
Mining stocks provided much of the momentum following a strong night on Wall Street for uranium, lithium and gold miners. The day's best here included Deep Yellow +9.19%, Boss Energy +7.05% and Bellevue Gold +6.32%.
Rio Tinto, Wesfarmers and Fortescue were the pick of the heavyweights, offsetting falls in CSL, Woolworths and ANZ.
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite closed at records overnight ahead of this month's Federal Reserve policy meeting, which starts tonight. The S&P 500 gained 0.47%.
