    Thanks afternoon crew.

    End-of-day summary:
Energy stocks dragged the share market lower for a second day after a $34.6 billion takeover of Santos fell through.
The ASX 200 dropped 73 points or 0.83% as the energy sector slumped almost 6%.
Santos plunged 11.9% after a consortium of Middle Eastern investors walked away from a proposal to acquire Australia's second-largest oil and gas producer. Woodside Energy skidded 6.26%.
Small and speculative stocks outperformed their larger peers, mirroring a similar pattern on Wall Street overnight after the Federal Reserve cut its key rate. The Small Ords rallied 0.49%. The Emerging Companies Index put on 0.68%.
US stocks closed mixed in volatile trade as investors balanced confirmation that the central bank still expects two more cuts this year against news that most policy-makers foresee just one cut next year. The S&P 500 closed 0.1% lower.
