Thanks afternoon crew. Some brutal selling this session (4DX, IFG, CAE, ZEU, KLR, GLA). Well done if you avoided the carnage.
End-of-day summary:
Australian shares fell for a second day as gains in gold miners and tech companies were dwarfed by declines across the wider market.
The ASX 200 dropped 46 points or 0.52% to 8803.5.
Gold miners Vault Minerals and Emerald Resources were among the day's best after gold hit a new high. In the tech space, Megaport and Life360 gained more than 2.7%. At the heavyweight end of the market, Fortescue, Coles and Wesfarmers resisted the sell-off as banks and energy producers dragged.
US stocks rebounded overnight as the prospect of a rate cut next week outweighed fears that the labour market is slowing. The S&P 500 lifted 0.21%.
