But even buying/holding many times within a year I may want to realise profits or loss depending on my tax position. For example one year my salary may be nearing a high tax bracket, so I want to avoid realising further earnings from the shares I sold.
Eg: If I hold many parcels of BHP, purchased over many years. When I choose to sell a portion, I can choose to sell/offset BHP I bought at $17 or BHP that I paid $60. And this choice lets me decide whether I want to realise a profit or loss.
I was hoping to find a software that searches and finds the best offsets for increasing or decreasing profits over a financial year.
As far as I know, this isn't considered washing or illegal. It's just choosing which of my various parcels I am selling.
Easy to do if you only buy/sell a few times, but with regular trading it becomes time consuming.
