End-of-day summary:

The share market finished modestly higher for the week after volatile rate-cut expectations swung from pessimism back to optimism in the US overnight.

Gains in resource and tech stocks helped propel the ASX 200 up 53 points or 0.69% to 7658 on the last session of the week. The rally carried the index 13.5 points or 0.18% into positive territory for the week.

Overnight, US stocks reversed their mid-week tumble as weak January retail sales rekindled hopes that interest rate cuts will start within the next few months. The S&P 500 rallied 0.58% to a new record close.
