End-of-day summary:
The share market rose for a third session but finished lower for the week following a poor first half as investors revised their expectations for this year's first rate cut.
Fresh highs on Wall Street overnight helped the ASX 200 edged up six points or 0.07% this session. Tech stocks, telcos, healthcare providers and REITs fared best. Notable drags included gold and uranium miners, utilities and small caps.
Today's rally trimmed the index's loss for the week to 55 points or 0.7%. This week's setback was the first in three weeks and followed a record close last Friday.
US stocks edged to new closing highs overnight as a positive earnings season continued. The Australian reporting season hits its stride next week with updates from CSL, CBA, Telstra and Wesfarmers.
