    Local markets enjoyed their best day of 2017 on Thursday, jumping firmly higher following strong off-shore leads and despite a number of key local stocks going ex-dividend.
    The ASX jumped sharply at the open after Wall Street hit new records overnight following US President Donald Trump's speech to Congress as well as solid global manufacturing data, and the local market held onto its gains throughout the day.
    The benchmark ASX200 rose 1.3 per cent to 5776.6, breaking five straight sessions of falls, while the broader All Ordinaries added 1.2 per cent.

    The overnight U.S. Sessions equities traded lower on Thursday as financials lagged, as social media company Snap opened for trading.
    The Dow Jones industrial average fell about 60 points, with Caterpillar contributing the most losses. Caterpillar's stock declined more than 4 percent after law enforcement officials searched their offices.
    Art Hogan, chief market strategist at Wunderlich Securities, said he is not worried about this decline. "I'd be much more concerned if, after being up 300 points yesterday, we were up 100 points today.

    Snap the parent company for social media platform Snapchat — saw its stock risemore than 50 percent after opening for trade, pushing it well above the $17 a share it priced its IPO. Investors eagerly awaited the IPO as they looked for clues on the health of the technology IPO market.
    The S&P 500 declined 0.42 percent, with financials declined more than 1 percent.
    The Nasdaq composite fell 0.49 percent.

    Oil prices fell 2 percent on Thursday after Russian oil production remained unchanged in February, showing weak compliance with a global deal to curb supply to tighten the oversupplied market.
    WTI crude settled $1.22 lower at $52.61, a three-week low and biggest one-day loss since January.
