It was more of a "side serve". The VPN advantage is more valuable market wise in that it would allow people to access location specific stuff you couldn't normally access, like US netflix. I wouldn't have thought in todays climate that many would expect a VPN run in a country like oz would have any less security requirements than an ISP.
The price run up was in anticipation of launch so interesting so see how hard it gets hit. WGL.
