Medibank Private is set for a strong stock market debut, with shares expected to list well above the price for the retail component of the biggest Australian IPO since Telstra.

Traders bought Medibank contracts for $2.26 each on Monday, compared with the $2.00 paid by 440,000 "mum and dad" investors, IG said.
