Banks are the biggest weight on the market, with Westpac down 1 per cent, CBA falling 0.5 per cent, ANZ down 0.4 per cent and NAB dropping 0.5 per cent.
Miners are weaker after iron ore prices tumbled on concerns of dwindling demand from China, and gold prices fell. Fortescue has lost 3.5 per cent and gold giant Newcrest Mining has dipped 2 per cent
The jobless rate remained at 6.2 per cent in October, as the economy created 24,100 new jobs, slightly more than the predicted 20k and after losing 23,700 in September
Japanese stocks extended their rally into a sixth day as the dollar held near a seven-year high versus the yen amid signs of strength in the US economy. Oil climbed as gold traded close to its lowest level since 2010
Gold is languishing near its lowest level since April 2010 as investors dump the safe-haven metal amid strength in the US dollar and equities
Spot gold has firmed slightly to $1143.20 an ounce, after tumbling over 2 per cent to $US1137.40 on Wednesday, following a sharp sell-off after breaking through key levels at $US1160 and $US1150
