Outlook for the day: Positive following gains in key commodities and a mixed but broadly supportive session on Wall Street.

ASX futures: up 17 points or 0.24%

Overnight themes:

• The S&P 500 and Nasdaq break losing streaks as tech stocks rally ahead of trading updates later this week. The Dow logs its fourth loss in five sessions.
• Nvidia soars 8.47% after HSBC upgrades its price target. The chipmaker, due to delivers earnings on Wednesday, has soared more than 200% this year on expectations it will be a big winner from AI.
• The tech sector jumps 2.26% as semiconductor stocks rally.
• The Nasdaq and S&P 500 are coming off three-week losing runs as rising yields dent support for rate-sensitive growth stocks.
• Defensive sectors drag as treasury yields touch their highest level since 2007. Real estate, consumer staples and energy are the night's worst performers.
• Iron ore rises to a three-week high as steel-makers delay implementing government-decreed productions cuts. Industrial metals rally after Chinese policymakers pledge further support for the economy.
• Global X's exchange-traded fund of battery metal miners bounces off a two-and-a-half year low. The ETF breaks an 11-session losing run as Chinese lithium prices steady.
