This one's for the sweet-toothed. We're still down in Louisiana, where Calas are a Creole breakfast treat. They're a type of rice ball or dumpling deep fried and powdered with sugar. Sometimes referred to as rice fritters or rice doughnuts. They've been around since at least 1880 and were once sold as a street food.
