Today is a public holiday in many parts of the world for Muslims celebrating the Birth of the Prophet, including a tiny Australian territory. The Cocos (or Keeling) Islands, halfway to Sri Lanka, are predominantly Sunni Muslim. Most of the 600 or so locals speak Malay as their first language, yet public services are administered by Western Australia. We're having breakfast on the deck at the Ninetysixeast Bed and Breakfast.
