BreakfastCambodia is in the midst of Pchum Ben, a 15-day Buddhist festival tied to the Khmer calendar and the Buddhist Lent. It seems to involve chanting and the "opening of the gates of hell". As an excuse for a public holiday, that sounds a lot more exciting than, say, Labour Day or the Queen's Birthday. Food is offered to placate the spirits of the deceased. Breakfast in Cambodia takes many forms. We're going with Num Pang, a French-influenced cousin to the Vietnamese Banh Mi. It's a popular street food, often containing meat or pate with mayonnaise, papaya and spicy chili sauce.
