    Good morning,

A rally in bank shares helped take Wall Street higher Monday, at the end of a choppy session, as investors bet that the fallout from Dubai's debt problems won't have a major impact on U.S. institutions.

A weak dollar, rising commodity prices and the first wave of holiday retail sales reports were also in play during a tumultuous session on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones industrial average (INDU) added 35 points, or 0.3%, according to early tallies. The S&P 500 (SPX) index gained 4 points, or 0.4%. The Nasdaq composite (COMP) rose 4 points, or 0.2%.

LONDON - European stock markets fell more than 1.0 per cent on Monday on lingering jitters over the Dubai debt crisis after Asian exchanges rallied and investor unease appeared to abate on Wall Street.

In London, the FTSE 100 index tumbled 55.05 points, or 1.05 per cent, to settle at 5,190.68.

FRANKFURT - Germany's Dax fell 59.66 points, or 1.05 per cent, to 5,625.95 points.

PARIS - The CAC 40 fell 41.3 points, or 1.11 per cent, to 3,680.15.

World oil prices perked up on Monday as investor worries over Dubai's debt crisis receded, analysts said.

New York's main contract, light sweet crude for January delivery, added $US1.23 to settle at $US77.28 a barrel.

The Australian share market is expected to open in the red on Tuesday after Wall Street traded flat overnight, and as investors await the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) decision on interest rates due on Tuesday afternoon.

At 0716 AEDT on the Sydney Futures Exchange, the December share price index contract was 11 points lower at 4,684.

In economic news on Tuesday, the RBA holds its December board meeting, releasing its decision on interest rates at 1430 AEDT.
