    Good morning,

US Stocks were mixed late Monday at the end of a choppy session impacted by a strong dollar, falling oil and gold prices and comments from Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke that cooled worries about higher interest rates.

The Dow Jones industrial average (INDU) was barely changed, according to early tallies. The S&P 500 index (SPX) lost 3 points, or 0.3%. The Nasdaq composite (COMP) shed 5 points, or 0.2%.

LONDON - European stock markets faded on Monday, dragged down by profit-taking, but losses were limited by a strong start to the day on Wall Street.

In London, the FTSE 100 index fell 11.7 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 5,310.66.

FRANKFURT - Germany's Dax declined 32.9 points, or 0.57 per cent, to 5,784.75.

PARIS - The CAC 40 lost 6.57 points, or 0.17 per cent, to 3,840.05.

Oil prices fell below $US75 a barrel on Monday as the dollar strengthened and several OPEC ministers said they don't expect their group to change production levels at a meeting later this month.

Benchmark crude for January delivery was $US1.54 lower at $US73.93 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Australian shares may open lower after US markets declined in mid-afternoon trade, led by banks and brokerages.

At 0656 AEDT on the Sydney Futures Exchange, the December share price index contract was nine points lower at 4,664.

In economic news on Tuesday, the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Research Economics releases its December quarter crop report.
