The Australian share market was flat at noon after a mixed lead from the US and despite gains among financial and gold stocks.
All Ordinaries index had lost 4 points, or 0.08 per cent, at 4,536 points.
Some analysts are saying "The major banks are driving the market with better-than-expected results from Westpac today. We're also seeing money flowing into the gold stocks but there's weakness among property and consumer staples."
The ABS reports that building approvals rose 2.7% in September. And retail sales fell 0.2% also for the month of September.
The best performing sector at midday is the Telecommunications index which is up 11 points to 1,119.
The worst performing sector at midday is the Real Estate Investment Trust index, down 20 points at 847.
Gold is trading at US$1,081.55 an ounce and the Aussie dollar is trading at 89.97 US cents.
