ASX is expected to open slightly lower after a weak auction of US government debt stirred worries that Washington will find it difficult raising money.
Gold miners may gain on the rise in the precious metal and energy stocks may decline after the oil price fell.
In economic news on Thursday, the Reserve Bank of Australia releases its Financial Stability Review.
