Yep, can relate to the dead skunk. When I finished working in the US in the late 1980s I spent about 6 months travelling around the southern US and Mexico. Can't remember which southern state it was, but I will never forget driving over a skunk which had been dead for quite a while. Felt like brushing my eyeballs to get the stink out - hard to describe!
