That hubby is the perfect person. Most of my clients are widows - ages range from 82-98 - most of them still living at home. Recently, the organization I work for is spreading out to higher-needs clients. This will be a common theme in the future: the govt is encouraging people to stay at home as long as possible.
One of my clients who died a few weeks ago was a high-care person, but still able to be looked after adequately at home. Two of us went 3 times a week to give him a bed bath etc.
The loneliness is tangible. Rooms full of photos/memories.
For most of my clients, I am the person they see more of than anyone else. It becomes personal. For someone who likes stories, it doesn't get much better.
I would have been able to do this job in my 20s and 30s, but it wouldn't resonate the way it does now. Like volunteer work, this is great for your soul. I reckon you'd be fab
