I think one of the best places for new traders to start is to try trading ST/MT charts with a gradual upward trend like ORE or CAT that have awesome 6 month charts, and whilst their building capital absorb as much as they can about the markets and hopefully by the time they've got a decent amount of capital they know how to use it

just my 2 cents

note: I'm not holding ORE or CAT right now, I'm a little more impatient these days, but if I was going to trade the trend these two would be right up there with the best of them
