I used to short via Commsec Over the Counter CFDs. Apparently, Commsec was just the retail side of that action, and Man Financial Global (MFGlobal) was at the back end.

MFG now bust, so no CFDs, no shorts for me. ASX CFDs have too wide a bid/ask spread, wider than the cash market and wider than the OTC CFDs used to be. Not worth doing in the short term IMO.

Even in a down market shorting is hard work, the biggest intraday moves in a down market tend to be up moves.

This DT thread seems to be mainly long traders. In some ways the long trade is easier, because you are only looking for one type of trade, the good thing about being able to trade long/short is that you see both side of the story and aren't tempted into a long trade for the wrong reasons.
