I think I first started paying attention to Bill when he was asked whether he had ever smoked a joint.
He said something like, "I did put a lit joint in my mouth, but I didn't inhale."
I remember that the US comedians had a lot of fun with that.

It was an astonishing thing to say - perhaps the most outrageous lie I have ever heard from a pollie. I remember thinking at the time that this is no amateur, this is a professional liar and someone to watch. The fact that he somehow got away with saying something so preposterous continues to amaze. Makes The Donald look like a wannabe.

I'd like to think if I had been the journalist who had asked that question and received that reply, that I would have leaned across the desk and slapped him hard, once, on the side of his face. Might have changed history
