Sounds like your having fun anyway, that's the main thing. But yes I can see what you are saying about not being in your home state , but also I suspect its a male thing of not keeping up with friends and acquaintances enough. And doesn't help when many pass away.
That's why a lot of people join groups, rotary, or rsl or whatever and even though it sounds daggy, we all need to feel connected. Having a dog is also good, a good little partner who never answers back! .
