Because 100% of x is x, so 150% of 100 is 150 but it is only UP 50%, i.e. up 50% on original [capital].
100 litres add a 200% increase(100*200%) is 100+ 200=300

the thing some people find confusing is when Peter Lynch talks about a 2 bagger; i.e. has doubled in value, or gone up 100%, whereas some refer to this as a one bagger.
