'Market Reflections' from previous session (16.07.2010)

"Soft results for Bank of America and General Electric marred what had been a good start to the second-quarter earnings season. But that wasn't even half of Friday's story. The twice monthly consumer sentiment report now shows the breakdown in spirits seen in the monthly consumer confidence report. "Double dip," "general pessimism," "mass liquidation" was the language of the session. The Dow fell 2.5 percent to 10,097. Oil fell 1.0 percent to $76.25 while gold fell 1.2 percent to 1,193. The 30-year yield dipped some more to end the week under four percent at 3.95 percent." [Source: nasdaq.com., Mark Pender]

Please note the following 'Economic news' which is due to be released in Australia tomorrow:-

  4. RBA Meeting's Minutes [ High volatility expected]
[The minutes of the Reserve Bank of Australia meetings are published two weeks after the interest rate decision. The minutes give a full account of the policy discussion, including differences of view. They also record the votes of the individual members of the Committee. Generally speaking, if the RBA is hawkish about the inflationary outlook for the economy, then the markets see a higher possibility of a rate increase, and that is positive for the AUD.]
