Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's China-loving image has been dented by claims he referred to the Chinese as "rat-f***ers" during the Copenhagen Climate Summit.

The angry outburst, published in the new edition of Quarterly Essay, published today, was made to a group of journalists and aides during the summit last December.

"Those Chinese f***ers are trying to rat-f*** us," Mr Rudd said to a group of officials and journalists after tense negotiations with the Chinese on reducing carbon emissions.
