1pm - 'Economic news' courtesy reminder time Traders!

'Market Focus' in the US this evening

"Another week of substantial improvement in jobless claims would point to tangible payroll gains for the employment report." [Source: nasdaq.com., Mark Pender]

'Market Reflections' from the last trading session (27.10.2010)

"Press reports saying the Fed may implement a scaled down version of second-round quantitative easing pushed stocks lower and the dollar higher. Economic data included a big aircraft-related boost for durable goods orders in an otherwise mixed report. New home sales data were also mixed but do show improvement.

The Dow slipped 0.4 percent to 11,126 while the dollar index rose 0.5 percent to 78.09. Talk of less aggressive Fed accommodation pushed rates higher with the 30-year Treasury yield up five basis points to 4.05 percent. Oil ended at $82 with gold at $1,325." [Source: nasdaq.com., Mark Pender]

Of note in the US this evening:-

  2. Jobless Claims [ Merits extra attention]
[New unemployment claims are compiled weekly to show the number of individuals who filed for unemployment insurance for the first time. An increasing (decreasing) trend suggests a deteriorating (improving) labor market. The four-week moving average of new claims smoothes out weekly volatility.]

  3. EIA Natural Gas Report [ Merits extra attention]
[The Energy Information Administration (EIA) provides weekly information on natural gas stocks in underground storage for the U.S., and three regions of the country. The level of inventories helps determine prices for natural gas products.]

  4. Money Supply
[The monetary aggregates are alternative measures of the money supply by degree of liquidity. Changes in the monetary aggregates indicate the thrust of monetary policy as well as the outlook for economic activity and inflationary pressures.]

  5. 3-Month Bill Announcement; 6-Month Bill Announcement; and 7-Yr Note Auction [Weekly Bill Settlement]
[Treasury bills are sold at public auctions every week; and Treasury notes are sold at regularly scheduled public auctions.]

    Of note in Australia tomorrow:-

  6. HIA New Home Sales (MoM) (Sep) [ Moderate volatility expected]
[HIA New Home Sales released by the Housing Industry Association presents the number of new home sales in Australia. It indicates the housing market condition. House buyers spend money on furnishing and financing their homes, which stimulates the demand for goods, services, and the employees. Thus, a high reading is seen as bullish (or positive) for the AUD, whereas a low reading is seen as bearish (or negative).]

  7. Private Sector Credit (MoM) (YoY) (Sep) [ Moderate volatility expected]
[The Private Sector Credit released by the Reserve Bank of Australia is an amount of money that the Australian private sector borrows. It shows if the private sector can afford large expenses, which can fuel economic growth. It is considered as an indicator of business conditions and the overall economic condition in Australia. Generally, a high reading is seen as positive (or Bullish) for the AUD, whereas a low reading is seen as negative.]
