    Australian market preview:

    Australian shares are set to for a relatively flat start to the week after little movement on Wall Street on Friday and as the world waits for action from European leaders.

    At 0709 AEDT on Friday, the December share price index futures contract was down three points at 4,295.

    In economic news on Monday, the Australian Bureau of Statistics releases business indicators for the September quarter.

    The TD Securities-Melbourne Institute inflation gauge for November is also released.

    The Australian Industry Group/Commonwealth Bank Australian Performance of Services Index (PSI) for November is also published, while the ANZ job advertisements series for November is due for release.

    Dun and Bradstreet releases its business expectations survey.

    In equities news, Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) deputy chairman Belinda Gibson addresses the Chartered Secretaries Australia annual conference in Sydney.

    Penrice Soda Holdings Ltd, Bondi Mining Ltd and Sino Gas & Energy Holdings Ltd hold annual general meetings.

    Stocks to watch on Monday:

    ANZ - ANZ BANKING GROUP LTD - up 38 cents at $20.88

    CBA - COMMONWEALTH BANK OF AUSTRALIA - up 95 cents at $49.55

    NAB - NATIONAL AUSTRALIA BANK LTD - up 38 cents at $24.55

    WBC - WESTPAC BANKING CORPORATION - up 44 cents at $21.57

    MQG - MACQUARIE GROUP LTD - up two cents at $24.37

    Australia's big four banks and investment bank Macquarie Group have had their credit ratings downgraded by Standard & Poor's as the agency changes its criteria for assessing banks.

    DJS - DAVID JONES LTD - up one cent at $2.89

    David Jones says there has been a heavy investment in Christmas advertising as the department store owner braces for a difficult festive trading season.

    RIO - RIO TINTO LTD - up 40 cents at $66.32

    Mining giant Rio Tinto will invest an additional $US2.7 billion ($A2.65 billion) modernising its aluminium smelter in British Columbia, Canada.

    SOL - WASHINGTON H SOUL PATTINSON & COMPANY LTD - up five cents at $13.80

    Washington H Soul Pattinson and Company (WHSP) has endured a fiery annual general meeting at which it fended off a key institutional investor's push to have a board member elected.
