High levels of the stress hormone cortisol can make stock market traders more risk averse, according to new research.
The findings suggest that physiology could explain the so-called "irrational pessimism" seen in a market crash when the economy most needs risk takers, says Professor Lionel Page, an economist at the Queensland University of Technology.
