I wouldn't really BLT a "bed of nails" any more than any other prospective biotech.

A lot of my LT prospective interests are diversified across a number of small biotechs. I find the best guard against any nail-based injury is just being be able to absolutely commit to taking profits when the price pumps, because the majority of the time, the price falls back to previous levels. My usual behaviour in these instances is to sell a small portion of my holdings into the pump, wait for the price to settle, and re-purchase the holdings while pocketing the profit.

Some might argue that if the price doesn't retreat after the pump, you might lose out on some of the profits - but it's my experience that regardless of what you believe the potential for the stock's technology to be in the future, this tends to be a more profitable strategy.
